DAY 2 - RANWORTH TO SALHOUSE BROAD

Leaving Malthouse Broad
After a great nights sleep, I really didn't want to get out of bed, but the sun was streaming through the hatch window. Diane must have been waiting for someone to make the first move as her door flew open before I got chance to turn the water on.

Silly Figure Head

Ranworth Behind Us
We sat in the morning sunshine and ate toasted fruit loaf, listening to the church bells. We paid a visit to the gift shop and post office. We bought some jam, I got some money, and were soon leaving Malthouse Broad. We had quite a lazy day planned, with no great distances to travel. I showed Diane the controls and let her take over while I went for a shower. The water was icy, so I had a quick wash and rinse and came out shivering, to find we had pulled over as we were in the middle of a fleet of sailing boats all going downstream, it was quite a sight.

Race?
Lot of Activity on the Bure

New Skipper
We hoped to find a mooring so we could pay a visit to Horning, all the public moorings were taken, Diane called out to man working outside the Swan, and told him that we wanted to have lunch there, and did he have any moorings we could use. He lead us down to the village green, and helped us tie up. It wasn't even 12pm, and far too early for lunch so we went for a walk down the main street. We popped into the delicatessen, and bought cheese, honey, and Turkish delight. While Diane bought gifts and toys for her family, Paul and I had a chat with the owners.

Approaching Horning

Shopping in Horning
We continued down to the New Inn, and got talking to a lovely retired couple who had sold up and bought a mobile home based in Lowestoft. On the way back we found a shop that only sells Lavender objects and Lace things, I popped in to buy a few things as gifts, and we got speaking to a wonderful lady who owns the shop. She used to work with Mother Theresa in Calcutta, we got into quite a conversation about India.

Outside the Deli
Approaching The Swan

After all this talking it was after 1pm, so we dropped our shopping off and went to the Swan for lunch. We sat outside in sun and had a delicious meal, Diane had the veggie roast dinner, and Paul and I had a sharing platter between us The pub was packed, and I have never seen Horning so busy. We returned to Sunset and took a leisurely cruise down to Salhouse Broad, and moored for the night. We were still only getting cold water, so we called Richardsons, they said they would send someone to us within the hour.

Perfect Lunch Spot

We left Paul on board and took the ferry to the Great Hoveton Broad Nature Trail. I noticed how bare the trees were, as they were heavily foliaged when we were there in September. We spent an hour walking round the nature trail and saw an abundance of butterflies, but very little else. When we got back to Sunset, Paul said the guy from Richardsons had been, and he had reset something under the floor, and said the problem was due to not running the engine for 5 hours.

Walking up to Woodbastwick
We got changed and walked down the footpath for 10 minutes, the along the road for another 20, and reached the village of Woodbastwick. We wandered down to the village green and then looked around the church. By then we were all very hungry so the went back to the Fur and Feather for dinner. It is a lovely pub, but was very quiet tonight. Their speciality was supposed to be their pies, so we went for that, and very tasty it was, and set us up nicely for the 30 minute walk back to Sunset.

The Green at Woodbastwick

The Fur And Feather
We were having tea and working out times for tomorrow, when suddenly the lights blinked out, we got on the phone to Richardsons, and the guy agreed to come out to us again. He arrived about an hour later, and replaced our battery, this was why we hadn't been able to get any hot water all day. It was gone midnight by the time he left, so we were grateful to get to get to our beds.
